Can a fractured knee cap repair itself after 3 months in a brace?

Question: 3 months ago, he was told he needed surgery, now the x-ray tech still says he needs surgery, but another doctor is saying he does not. Can the kneecap heal itself?

Yes, the kneecap (patella) can heal on it's own just like any other bone if it wasn't too badly broken. The reason for surgery is to help the bone heal in the proper alignment.
