thyroid levels?

Question:
levels go down every year. They have gone from a 0.8 to a 0.48. My Dr. does not consider this low, even though I have gained 50 lbs and can't lose it and have many other symptoms. Is she nuts or is it just me?

Answers:

When in doubt, always get a 2nd opinion. It's your right to do so. My doctor did several tests, but as soon as it was confirmed, I was put on pills to help my hypothyroidism. If something doesn't seem right to you in your gut, get a second opinion!

there are many hormone level measured when doing thyroid function , and each has a normal range and not a specific value
so it is normally to fluctuate within the normal range
there is

Let me guess, many of your other symptoms include painful, heavy or irregular periods, severe PMS symptoms, depression/anxiety, food cravings, insomnia, and/or decreased sex drive. Most of your weight has been on your abdomen, hips, and thighs. These, along with functional hypothyroidism with "normal" thyroid levels are due to an imbalance between estrogen and progesterone.

Get online and look for Dr. Janet Lang. She is a chiropractor who performs natural-based medicine and she lectures to other doctors about treating these female hormone imbalances. I would assume that if you email her, she will recommend a doctor in your area who can help you.

Some Dr.s are starting to realize that each persons "normal" thyroid level may be at different ends of the supposed "normal" range. Thus, if you are normally at the higher end, but drop, it will have an impact on your body, yet all the tests will say that you're still in the normal range.

You know when things are "off". Get a 2nd opinion from an Endocrinologist.

P.S. If you are under a lot of stress, not eating well, or are severely dehydrated, your hormones levels will definitely spike and drop, making you feel even worse than you already do..
