I saw a program about a year or two back on trained dogs that are being used to help with this problem. The dogs were trained to walk slowly by their owners side and when a bout of hesitancy flared, the dog would put it's paw on the owners foot which seemed to break the cycle and keep the owner moving. I am pretty sure the patients I saw were suffering from Parkinsons. I hope this helps or gives you something to look into. Good luck, I hope all goes well.
