What is OCD?

Question:

Answers:
OCD stands for obsessive compulsive disorder. Most people think that the term OCD only covers people who feel compelled to complete repeditive rituals or suffer from germ paranoia, but there are actually many branches of OCD. Ther are the checkers, who repeatedly check things such as whether or not they locked their car, even if they know that they did, there are the cleaners, who are constanly terrified of germs or bacteria, there are the 'moral nuts' who live in fear of commiting 'sins' that they won't know about at the time. And there are the pure obsessionals who have unwanted, often violent thoughts concerning death, murder, suicide, or sexual acts. These are only some strains of OCD, and everyone who has it has a slightly different condition. OCD is usualy manageable with the propper tools.

The definition of OCD:

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder is an anxiety disorder characterized by intense, recurrent, unwanted thoughts and rituals that are beyond the person's control.

I've seen people close to me suffer from it and here is how they behave. One of my friends has to go round the car twice before he starts it. If it doesnt do it, he gets too very tense thru the day. Some others wash their hands atleast 30-40 times a day because they fear infection. Even if they wash their hands with the strongest soap, they still want to wash it again. These are some rituals people who suffer from OCD perform. For others, it will be thoughts that come in recurrently, that they cannot stop at all.
