I'm a dentist.

Other than me, you are probably the only person here who has actually read anything about wisdom teeth, and that goes a long, long way. There is absolutely no substitute for reading things yourself (the dental assistant knows only what she hears the doctor telling his/her patients). My hat goes off to you.

The answer is "no". Wisdom teeth do not cause crowding. That is a myth.

Teeth, as we age, tend to move forward in the laws. What keeps them in place is proper contact with the other teeth. What you may find in your own mouth (or if you look at the mouths of many people in their 40's and above) are partially overlapping mandibular incisors. Try this:

Go to a mirror, and face it. Raise your hands up in front of your face about 1-foot away from your face, palms toward your face and the backs of your hands towards the mirror. Now, touch your edges of your hands together. Push them together hard. Now, take your right hand, and move it about a 1/3 of an inch forward, and push again. Your hands will slip and overlap. Same thing occurs with your mandibular and even your maxillary incisors, except over a long period of time.

Some have suggested that the mandibular second molars provide the most forward push, and certainly they make a strong argument for it. Remove a mandibular first molar, and in a short period of time the second molar will have tilted forward significantly.

Wisdom teeth that are leaning too far forward and unerupted can, however, create enough force on the roots of the second molars to cause root resorption.

There's rarely any urgency to getting wisdom teeth out. If you cannot afford it, I would strongly urge you to have your dentist evaluate them and make sure that there are no problems. Yearly panoramic x-rays to evaluate for developing problems would be highly appropriate until you get them out.

Keep in mind, though, that the older you get, the more difficult and risky a procedure it is to get them out. A knowledgable dentist and all oral surgeons know this, and for patients above, let us say, the age of 25 to 30, they will leave them in unless there is some sort of specific problem that requires their extraction. All surgeries, even third molar extractions, are performed only when the benefits outweigh the risks. When you are a teenager, this is almost always the case. On older patients, not always so.

I think if they become impacted they can start pushing your teeth forward, causing them to become overcrowded. There are many adults that still have their wisdom teeth and have no problems with overcrowding. I have consulted many dentists for my husband who is 29 and was having some problems with his wisdom teeth and they recommended that you only have your wisdom teeth out if you are having pain or complications with your wisdom teeth. If they aren't hurting you then you can just leave them alone. It takes a long time for your teeth to move (think of years in braces) so I think you would feel the pain of your wisdom teeth before they caused any major crowding. Hope this helps!

when bath is running and youre in it,if righthanded do you always swish water by right hand up left hand down?

Some people keep them because they aren't causing any problems. I, on the other hand, had to have mine removed because they were crowding my other teeth. It was very painful, and I wasn't willing to risk it because I had spent so much time and money in braces. On the x-ray, I could see them visibly pushing in toward the other teeth. Necessity for removal really depends on the person and how the teeth are growing in. If you are concerned about whether or not yours are messing up your teeth, ask your dentist to take a panorex - its a wide, side-to-side x-ray that will show the growth of your 3rd molars (wisdom teeth). Best of luck! Always consult your dentist for the best advice concerning your dental health..
