I need to lower my blood pressure to 139 from 147 with in two weeks is there a quick remedy?
Question:
Answers:
One of the major causes of high BP is salt intake. Stay away from salty foods (fast food, canned food, any type of processed meat or cheese). Goal is to get less than 2 grams a day. Also, excercise and stopping smoking helps.

blood pressure changes by the minute. 8mm is nothing. eat less salt, walk for 30 mins each day. have a good night's sleep the night before, get to the doctor's office in plenty of time, relax, take some deep breaths. breathe out very slowly as the cuff is deflating.
Everyone is right, all of these things are good ideas. Cutting out the salt is the most important. Be sure and read all food labels. You will be surprised at the amount of salt in seeming innocuous items.
mmm .it shouldn`t be very hard , in case you don`t have that pressure because of a disease. the simple things to do :
- cut the salt
- stop any caffeine intake
- be very relaxed and not tired at all when the pressure is mesured

All the answers so far are good advice but the real question is what is the underlying cause. It may be genetic, dietary or lifetsyle (a parental history, high intake of saturated fats and salt, lack of exercise, overweight, stress etc)all of which can increase the risk of heart disease. I suggest you consider testing your cholesterol (total/HDL ratio) and your blood sugars. If these all are on the high side then look at testing for arterial stifness which indictates risk of CHD. Even then, if the results are high by getting early indication of risk factors a lifestyle change will often help manage the situation. There are many natural supplements around that have shown promise. If you need links to useful reference sites let me know - but above all be pleased with yourself because you are taking control of your health and not letting it control you!
You don't mention your physical condition but if you are in a position and healthy enough to engage in an aerobic exercise (much more vigorous than walking - treadmill, jogging, lifecycle, spinning, or swimming, with a sustained heart rate goal of 0.8 x 220 minus your age) for at least 20 minutes daily. You will find that your resting vascular tone will improve significantly with that sort of effort even in as short a time as two weeks.
Caution: If you have been sitting on a sofa for the last five years or more, do not engage in a program of sudden intense physical activity. You need to work up to this level.

First of all is this the first time that your BP has been elevated? If so,don't worry, that will raise your BP. A systolic BP of 147 is not that bad. So please don't let your MD try to put you on a med without first having you check your BP's at home for that week before seeing the MD. If he insists that you take a med take your BP at home because your BP could get too low.
I would also recommend getting a second opinion if your doc thinks that 147 is high.
