Answers:
Proteinuria is the condition is which there is an abnormally high level of protein in the urine, excreted by the kidneys. In addition to blood glucose and blood pressure control, the National Kidney Foundation recommends restricting dietary salt and protein. Your doctor may refer you to a dietitian to help you develop and follow a healthy eating plan.

You are right. It is a very rare disease. In patients with c1q nephropathy, treatment centers around steroid therapy. To reduce the proteinuria, medications such as ACE inhibitors and angiotensin receptor blockers are used at maximal dose and sometimes in combination as tolerated by the patient (i.e. blood pressure, kidney function, blood potassium level, etc.) If you are a woman at a fertile age, however, the 2 medications above are contraindicated as they may cause fetal abnormalities and deaths -- unless of course, you use protection against getting pregnant. Whatever you do, do follow with your kidney doctor closely!
