Are there any ladies that have had the Mirena or the Copper IUD put in?
Any opinions!? I'm getting married this summer and want something for long term use without hormones or major side effects.

The Mirena IUD contains a type of hormone called levonorgestrel, which blocks sperm and alters the lining of the uterus, interrupting implantation of a fertilized egg. It provides protection for 5 years. The levonorgestrel hormone has been shown to shrink uterine fibroids, decrease menstrual cramping, and can reduce mentrual blood loss by 97 percent, and may lower your risk of endometrial cancer.
The ParaGard IUD, instead of hormones, contains copper which kills sperm. It provides protection for 10 years. ParaGard may lower your risk of developing endometrial, uterine, and cervical cancers, although experts aren't sure why. This method can be used if breast feeding, or if you can't tolerate side effects from hormonal methods.

You can't escape side effects. I really don't beleive in BC but I suggest condoms-it is the most humane.

My sister-in-law has the IUD and loves it. She says that it makes her periods shorter and lighter. She has had it for about 4 years now. As always talk to your doctor. What works for others may not work for you. Congrats on getting married.I never had any problems with my periods ever since I started having
them in my teens. I came off the Pill when I was 35.I had an IUD fitted two years later as, like you ,I got married again.
After having it in for 18 months,I had to have it removed as my periods were very heavy and painful.My answer is, not recommended.
