Think of it from the standpoint of a business that is trying to make money. if everyone was cured, noone would need to buy these drugs that just give the "placebo effect".

Maybe because it's not proven. The Food & Drug Administration (FDA) regulates claims that are made about, well, food and drugs. They are pretty strict about claims made for cures, for the good of consumers.This was popular many years ago, and Americans went to Mexico for treatment with the derivative from apricot seeds or peach pits.
It is bogus, it doesn't work. It took a lot of people's money and robbed them of proper medical treatment that might have helped them.
