Answers:
A cyst, by definition is a fluid filled, thin walled occurrence. A tumor, in this context has solid characteristics. Assuming you mean to differentiate characteristics of benign and cancerous entities on some sort of imaging study, this is a basic guideline.
As for cancer potential, cysts are often observed in the absence of symptoms, rapid change, or large size, while solid lesions may warrant a more aggressive approach even when asymptomatic.
In the ovary, the very nature of the organ lends itself to cyst formation. in fact, the creation of an egg culminates in the formation and ultimate rupture of a follicular cyst.

A cyst is generally benign (harmless and only bad cosmetically), a tumor is generally malignant (dangerous and harmful).

ovarian cyst removal
True that a cyst is fluid-filled and usually benign, while a tumor is solid.
Women often get tiny ovarian cysts during their cycle that disappear again. They can cause cramp-like pain.
However, a BIG ovarian cyst needs to be removed surgically.
Sometimes a large ovarian cyst can twist the ovary. VERY painful (take it from someone who had one). It can twist and untwist many times, so pain comes and goes. If the supply to the ovary is cut off long enough, it can become gangrenous.
Can be spotted with an ultrasound. (Much better than 30 years ago, when exploratory surgery was necessary!)
finally,a good question.
the cyst is a swelling which develops after a follicle has ruptured and spelled out the ovum(the female half of life), and it is usually filled with fluid or sometimes blood, and it is either malignant or benign, but the majority are benign..around 80% of women have benign cysts and they are symptomless usually.
ovarian tumors arise from different tissues, from the cortex(outer layer of ovary) or from stroma(inner part of ovary) or from the follicles themselves.
