how do i figure out what i'm allergic to? (enviromental allergies, not food)?

Question:
my nose is chronically stuffy and runny. one side i can hardly breathe thru. i think i may have a nasal polyp. also veeeeery dry nostrils driving me up the wall. any ideas?

Answers:
The best way is to go to an allergist for allergy testing. At this time of year you could be reacting to tree pollen, molds, or dust mites. Dust mites favor humidity levels above 40% and can suddenly increase and cause problems in the spring and fall as humidity levels change.

If you can't get a physician to test, you can tell if things in the air are causing problems by going to a building with VERY good air quality, like a medical building or sometimes AC in restaurants and spending a few hours. If you improve and then get worse after you leave, it is probably air-born.
To test for dust mites, wash all bedding in hot water and bleach, including mattress pad and pillow(make SURE it's dry). In the evening, wash hair & dry, take shower, put on clean jammies. If you wake up having had the best sleep of your life - it's dust mites.
For the symptoms you describe, there are prescription nasal sprays that do wonders, flonase and nasocort are two.

I have had physicians who do not know much about allergies tell me to squirt saline solution in my nose. It may work for someone somewhere. It never did for me.
