Society. The degeneration of the fabric of morality is the reason why. I agree wholeheartedly. People should just find partners and stick with them like glue. None of these new-fangled notions of divorce.
I think people are just experimental and wondering "what else is out there." The media also contributes to this by glamorizing affairs and sex (Desperate Housewives; soap operas; Maxim). Even if you think you've found "the one" and get married, there are bound to be things down the road that you haven't planned on--whether it's different ways to raise the kids, money problems, trouble w/the in-laws, etc. Yes, you can work on the marriage and try various things. Sadly, I think it's just so darn easy to get a divorce these days, however.
