i would like to know if rinsing a colostomy bag in bleach water will cause illness?

my husband seems to think that the bleach is getting into his system through the stoma and making him sick.

I'm going to nursing school and I know that you can use vinegar mixed with water I would say a cup of water and about a tablespoon of vinegar. Bleach isn't bad if u mix it with water. 2 cups of water and teaspoon of bleach but make sure u rinse it out very well.

I agree with your husband.All you need to do is wash the bag with warm soapy water.

Maybe you should ask your husbands doctor about the right solution for irrigating a colostomy bag.

oh honey don't use bleach i use to work in the medical field.just use hot soapy water.get the water boiling and let it soak so that way u can kill any germs.let it soak for about 30min.then clean it.add some cold water with boiling water so u don't burn ur self.hope this helps honey.best wishes for u and ur husband
