Does Lexaquin fight infections of the gums and teeth?
Question:
I loosened 2 teeth last week by biting into a metal fork. A week later the gum behind the teeth became swollen and probably infected. The doctor prescribed Lexaquin.
Answers:
I believe the antibiotic you are referring to is Levaquin.. not Lexaquin. Levaquin is not generally given to treat infections of the gums and teeth. When a dentist prescribes Levaquin it is usually because a patient is experiencing pain in a tooth or teeth due to an infection in the maxillary sinuses.
Other Answers:
yes it does.
Levaquin is an antibiotic in a class of drugs called fluoroquinolones. It fights bacteria in the body. Levaquin is used to treat various types of bacterial infections.
