Exactly what ummed said. 2 weeks before your period, an egg could be fertilized, but would not implant for some time after. I don't even know that you'd be producing hCG (hormone tested for in pregnancy tests) until implantation, but I may be wrong.

2 weeks before your period is when you ovulate (release an egg) so you cant tell until several days after the embryo implants (8-9 days after ovulation)
