questions about menopause at 31?
Question:
my doctor just told me thursday that I am going through the first stage of menopause. and put me on birth control pills to help stop it is that normal
Answers:
It is normal to prescribe low-dose hormones or low-dose hormone birth control pills to women going through menopause to relieve some of their symptoms, such as hot flashes.
There have been a variety of studies questioning the safety of hormonal treatment for women. There is a link below providing a summary of some of these issues.
If you are concerned, you should discuss this with your doctor or seek a second opinion.
I have also included a link to information about premature menopause, generally defined as menopause occuring in women under the age of 40. There is no way to reverse menopause once the process has started, so the birth control pills your doctor prescribed are presumably meant to help with your symptoms.
