If you want authentic dreads, you never wash them. Use a beeswax product and twist them. If you want cracka/bro/whitey dreads then go to a salon and have Raul make you look like Axel Rose.
grose cut that **** off
The thickness of your locks is determined by your hair texture and their own circumference. They will probably swell on their own at some point, but not a significant amount. Do not put waxes or gel in them! If you think your locks are too thin, depending on how you maintain them you might be able to combine them.
