when a physician writes a prescription, is there a limit to the number of refills that can be made?
Question:
i am asking this question because i know there is a limit on controlled substances but i could not find anything on regular prescriptions. an example would be you go to your doctor and he prescribes lipitor daily. he gives you 8 refills. i want to know if that is allowed.
Answers:
The rules can differ from state to state. Here in Indiana you can get six months refills on a controlled substance, and a full year on non controlled. In Indiana only certain controlled substances can be called in to the pharmacy. Vicodin can be called in with refills but Percocet has to be a written prescription for each refill.
Other Answers:
Yes. According to the Federal drug regulations there are limits of time in which certain Rx can be refilled like pain killers which are concidered narcotics.
It is best that you go back to the Dr. every 3 or 4 months to get your liver checked lipitor has an effect on your liver so the Dr. has to check your liver to see if the Meds are doing thing bad to it. If it is you have to change your Meds
