how do you get rid of yellowish dandruff flakes-tried all the shampoos and no long term help-any remedies?
Question:
My boyfriend has yellowish flakes that look like dandruff but they also look the color of baby cradle cap-he tried all the dandruff shampoos and they work for a little while but not long and he has no itching just the flakes and because he has black hair it shows up more-dermatoligist cost too much money!
Answers:
Sounds like a fungus to me, if there is no itching it is not dandruff. Try a shampoo with zinc pyrithione in it, it's an antifungal. it's also important NOT to wash your hair daily, you strip your hair and scalp of it's natural protective oils, which are kind of like the scalps immune system. it's also important to use a conditioner to keep the hair and scalp moisturized.
Other Answers:
A doctor may be the only way to get prescription shampoo. You might ask a pharmacist, tho'.
try a different shampoo.
Sounds like sebhorrea, not dandruff. A dermatologist can prescribe a medicated shampoo. The over-the-counter products will not help.
Neutrogena T-Gel & start taking vitamin E.
have u tried selsun blue or head & shoulders. they work. ask your doctor it may be more than dandruff
Try " Head and shoulder " Shampoo
Sounds like a yeast problem. Tar shampoo is excellent, tea tree oil shampoo is also really good. Nizoral used to be presecription only, but it may be OTC.

It sounds like he's got nutritional problems. I'd suggest that he start taking men's multi-vitimins, lay off junk food (sweets, salts, and fats), and try to drink about 3 liters of water a day. It sounds like a nutritional thing to me. If he smokes, it wouldn't hurt to knock that off too.
He should then go to a doctor. Tell him to ask his doctor about Nizoral shampoo. It is by perscription only.
There are many different remedies for his dandruff:
.change his diet to where he reduces his sugar intake, ucrose, fructose, glucose, lactose, maltose, corn syrup, molasses, sorghum and maple syrup are good things to stay away from.
.Don't shampoo in hot water. Try switching up different anti-dandruff shampoos and shampoo with luke warm water and then rinse in cold. You should see a difference in four to six weeks.
.Anything that he puts in his hair, hair spray, gel, or or mousses should be free of alcohol.
.Or you could add black currant/primrose/or another type of vitamin E oil to his diet, 500 MG twice a day is good to start at and when the dandruff clears up, cut it in half.
After trying different tactics and it still stays consistent or gets worse you NEED to see a Dermatologist because he could be suffering of psoriasis and would need to take medication.GOOD LUCK! *hug*
