Is maple syrup glycemic causing spikes in blood sugar?
Question:
A friend sent me this message and I want to know if it's true:
"Maple syrup is glycemic; it makes your blood sugar spike. Agave nectar looks and is used like honey but it won't spike you."
Thanks
Answers:
Maple syrup or anything containing high concentrations of sugar will cause your blood sugar to spike. Agave nectar is primarilly used in the distallation of tequila, thus if you have a blood sugar problem alcohol can be problematic since it turns to sugar in your blood and stomach.
Other Answers:
All syrup whether maple, corn or whatever will cause spikes in blood sugar. Agave nectar is metabolized slower causing a gradual rise in blood sugar instead of a sharp spike.
Yes, there is a lot of sugar in Maple Syrup..
Maple syrup and Agave are concentrated sweeteners that will create a case of hyperglycemia.
