is ashtanga yoga bad for spondylitis?

I have been practicing gentle yoga for 2 years and found it helped my back pain. Due to ill health I was unable to practice for 2 months I then began to practice Ashtanga yoga and now have quite severe back pain. Should I continue?

From what I've read, yoga can help spondylitis, but it's recommended to get advice from a doctor and an experienced yoga teacher first. It is also suggested to not do inverted poses.
Ashtanga yoga is intensely physical and athletic so it sounds like you should stick to gentle yoga styles.
