Cross-eyed, double vision, what's the difference between the two?

I've been having a vision problem lately, particuarly when tired, where my eyes don't want to fix on an object and it's like a split screen, only one image is below and to the right of the other image as it appears to my sight. I don't know what I'm experiencing or why. Any opthomolgists or optometrists out there willing to do a free consult? Anyone else have an idea?

Double vision can result from being cross-eyed, but it has other causes as well. Usually if you're cross-eyed, you'll see double. There are many things that can cause this (some serious, some not) and you really need to have a complete eye exam performed in order for your doctor to figure out the problem and the best solution.
