what is the best medicine for Asthma?
Question:
Answers:
Depends. If you have symptoms every day, you need a combination of a bronchodilator (opens the airways) and a "steroid" (which reduces inflammation) inhaler. It's not the bad type of steroid you might think of. The most popular one right now is Advair. If you don't have symptoms every day but have them a few times a week, a steroid inhaler alone is recommended (like Flovent or Pulmicort). If you only have symptoms once a week or less, an albuterol inhaler by itself is fine. You just take it when you feel short of breath. The other inhalers should be taken every day. A doctor would also need to evaluate whether your lungs are working properly to decide on treatment. Drugs like Singulair are very popular but are not all that effective.
Other Answers:
I use two inhalers, Albuterol & Pulmocort. They help a lot. My asthma is caused by allergies though, so I also take Allegra-D & hydroxzine (makes people sleepy).
