I'm asking this because I need to burn some fat. I'm doing sit-ups three times a day. Does his help?

Sit ups are good but they only work a portion of the body. I suggest also doing bicycle crunches, regualr crunches, side crunches, change your diet, and take long walks, or if you do that already jog and wrong. The idea is to work the whole body, the more you work one area, the better a differnt area tends to look. Work the whole body for wholistic results. Remember work out to burn more than the calories you intake, so eat many small meals through out the day.
Sit ups are okay, crunches are better - but don't forget the obliques.

any exercise that works your Abs help a lot. it is not a fast process anything worth having is worth working for.

Don't confuse the type of exercise with weight loss. While situps or crunches will strengthen your abs, they will not burn the fat there. Body fat will be burned usually in the opposite way it expands. In most men, they first get a gut, then love handles then fat all over. For women, they get fat but, thighs, then arms etc. When exercise\ing or dieting reduces your fat it will usually shrink in the opposite direction from where it grows (men lose belly fat last - after love handles).
Exercise strengths muscles you work - but dieting and/or exercise will reduce the fat all over your body - Not on the body part you are working.
