What food has the highest possible calorie per dollar? Is it donuts?
Question:
I am involved with feeding starving kids in 3rd world countries. I would like to know what food has the highest calorie/cost ratio.
My guess is donuts. *shrug*
Answers:
Nurse is right-it's lard. Butter, margarine, and canola oil would all be up there as well. Sugar and the other carbohydrate-rish foods, such as rice, have less than half the calories/weight. Now, about cost per dollar-oils and other fats are fairly expensive by weight, so now it probably is a grain of some sort. Unfortunately, starving kids in the third world usually are very protein-poor, adn this is harder to get to them, since everyone wants to send rice and flour. Get some good beans in them.
Other Answers:
What about rice? Rice is extremely cheap and has plenty of calories.
My guess is plain old table sugar.
Perhaps you should look for foods that have the most protein per dollar.
I don't think I would go for the highest calories or you will be sending over Krispi Cremes and those are probably as bad to eat as NOT eating. If it can be "perishable", then probably "protein" food would be better.
lard. it's pure fat and dirt cheap. honey also has a lot of calories. but fat has the most calories.
i like donuts. donuts is a faty junk food.i think rice and eggs are good food.
