Any tips and tricks for a new grad nurse?

I agree with the second answer. I've been a nurse for a year and a half, so its all still kinda new to me as well. But from my experience, you really do have to stand up for yourself. Dont let the older nurses walk all over you and make you feel stupid. Your patients really are the ones who will appreciate you the most. Put them first and make sure they are taken care of. As far as your lunch break, if your not getting one, tell someone. Every employee in america has a right to multiple breaks by law. You could maybe try carrying some candy or something in your pocket to keep you going. Drink a lot of water, get enough rest.
I AM AN MA SO OUR POSITIONS ARE DIFFERENT BUT WHAT WORKED FOR ME IS TO ORGANIZE SITUATIONS. FOR EXAMPLE WE HAVE A LOT OF PAPERWORK AND PHONE CALLS AND INJECTIONS ETC...SO FOR ME IT WAS EASY TO FIRST.ROOM A PT TAKE VITALS
2ND ANSWER CALL BACKS AND REFERELS 3. PAPERWORK LUNCH PAPERWORK PHONES AND ALL WHILE ROOMING THE PATIENTS. WHERE I WORK ITS EVERY 15 MINUTES YOU HAVE A PT SO YOU HAVE ABOUT 10 MINUTES TO HUSTLE AND GET PAPER WORK OUT OF THE WAY . I HOPE THIS HELPED
IN OTHER WORDS LEARN ALL YOU CAN ABOUT THE PROGRAMS ON THE COMPUTER, ROOMING POLICIES, TRIAGE POLICIES , AND GET SOME KIND OF ORGANIZATION GOING ON. IN ABOUT TWO WEEKS AT ONE PLACE IN A ROW YOU SHOULD HAVE A SYSTEM
Hi, Its tough isn't it? Sorry but you wont like my answer been in this game 8 years, tired out, very stressed - illness related to this, never get a lunch break. Work with people who are supposed to be caring but are pretty mean to each other. Health care is probably the most uncaring area to work in from my experience. You go into it because you want to care and it drains you of every last bit in you. The only thing that keeps me going is the patients- they are the ones that appreciate you. working in this environment is definitely a vocation and we don't do it for the money thats for sure. Try to stand up for yourself, say no to extra shifts, responsibilities and just go for lunch. The point is you are not being selfish - you need to look after yourself otherwise you burn out and then you cant look after anyone else. i f others around you don't like this you can explain this to them. Good luck I wish you well and hope you love you new vocation - with all the other stuff your going have to deal with you need to!
