Very nervous mom?
Question:

My daughter had 6 hip surgeries before the age of 2 so I understand your apprehension. I agree that this anesthesia will be similar to the dental procedure. This may even be safer because there are more people monitoring him in the hospital. My best advice is to just flow with it. Ask all the questions you need to and hug your son a lot. Tell him as much as you feel he can understand and need to know--in other words don't tell him so much it scares him but don't keep him completely in the dark. Kids can tell when a parent is scared or upset so try to remain calm around him. If you need to cry go ahead--you're allowed to because this is a scary time for you too. The biggest thing is to have faith in your son's doctor and feel comfortable with him. If for any reason you don't feel comfortable with him find another surgeon. Like i said just hug your son and stay with him as long as you can before they take him to surgery.
well i haven't been through this, but i am a mom and can understand why you are nervous. It will be very different compared to the dentist i think. different methods of anesthesia and i imagine he will have a hospital stay. this will be very hard for him as well because i imagine there will be some pain and he will need pain meds. just make sure you are there for him the whole time and let him know mommy loves him constantly. Sometimes a furry friend works too during the stay. My daughter had to undergo a minor procedure and had her gorilla with her to comfort her....good luck to you and your son.
