I use glasses (readers) only when I read. What kind of eye surgery or treatment is available?

Question:
that will allow me to read without glasses. Thanks.

Answers:
There are a few possible options available.
1. Do nothing, and be thankful that God gave you great eyes for driving, playing golf, watching the birds and movies. There are worse things in life!
2. Try a single contact lens for reading, or perhaps a multifocal contact lens that allows that eye to see both distance and near.
3. Surgically, you'd either have to have Lasik or conductive keratoplasty in one eye to make that eye a near-reading eye. The downside is that eye will not be able to see as well for distance. Some people cannot tolerate the imbalance that this mono-vision creates.
4. Multifocal lens implant surgery in both eyes to allow each eye to see well for both distance and near. Not too many people go this route. We more typically implant these lenses in patients who already have a cataract. If your eyes are otherwise completely healthy, it's an expensive way to avoid reading glasses

If you're still interested in exploring these options, I'd encourage you to check in with an EyeMD (ophthalmologist, or eye surgeon) who can go over all these options with you. Best of luck, and don't forget option 1.
