I am sure the pharmacist is right about alcohol adversely affecting the healing process. But, as for antibiotics, the answer is no. The first true antibiotic was penicillin, introduced in WW2. One of its primary functions, alongside treating infections from wounds, was also to treat soldiers infected with STD's. In order to ensure that soldiers stayed "clean" and did not get re-infected, they were told that alcohol would stop the drug from working. It was just a ruse to keep them out of the bars and away from "loose" women. It was then accepted into the mainstream medical community. Theory being that if you could treat an infection AND cut someones drinking why not kill two birds?

Absolutely! It is not safe to take alcohol with antibiotics. There are some that have severe reactions. Flagyl causes a bitter taste in the mouth when you even use mouthwash. Larger doses cause even worse reactions!
