How to tell if an adult has an ear infection?

Question:
How do I know If I have an ear infection. The last time I went to the doctors for the opposite ear they told me it was just inflamed and it had one of those little pimples in there. How do I know if the other one isnt doing the same thing?

The symptoms I have are:
Severe pain starting from the neck to deep inside the inner ear.
Swelling of the ear canal
Pussing
bleeding
headaches
peeling of the top layer of skin from inner as well as outer ear
earring hole pussing and very painful
No cold or sickness, no fever
dizziness
very very slight hearing loss

This one is a lot worse than what happened in my other ear. How do I know for sure WITHOUT going to a doctor.

Answers:
Something is obviously wrong; and you need to see an Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose and Throat specialist) ASAP.

You list so many symptoms that it sounds like you might have several conditions going on simultaneously -- and yet you say the hearing loss is minimal, which is surprising. Honestly, it doesn't make sense to me. A detailed history and physical examination is the only way to properly diagnose your condition(s).

WebMD is the best place for medical information I think.

It kinda sounds like an ear infection :)
