How can you treat a really nasty ear infection?

Question:

My Doctor gave me some Percoset for pain, but he was unable to prescribe anything for congestion as I have a FATAL allergy to Robitusssin.I am on Antibiotic treatment as well ( Augmentin) But I really need something to drain this crap outRight now, all I have are my herbals (Loose leaf Echinacea and Nettles) but at this point, they are behaving in a hit/miss fashion.I thank you and my poor right ear thanks you in advance for good advise...OWWW!

Seven weeks ago - my nasty ear infection started. It began with itchiness and quickly progressed to swelling, pain, leakage and interferred with my sleep. I saw two different doctors and both prescribed antibiotics and drops. I was allergic to the drops and things went from bad to worse - until I could not hear much out of my right ear. Three days ago - I finally saw an ear specialist............who showed me my healthy ear on a big screen - and then showed me the 'sick' one. Ugh! Faced with full visuals of my yucky ear - I finally conceded defeat and agreed to whatever needed to be done to fix it. The specialist vacummed the pus out of my ear - which left me feeling very dizzy..........and told me to keep my ears dry - which means stuffing a wad of cotton wool covered in plastic into my earhole whilst showering. He took cultures which will be cooked by tomorrow - to make sure that it is the bug he diagnosed and gave me treatment for - I have antibiotic drops (Taravid) and tablets (Ciprobay). After three days - the swelling, itchiness, redness, leakage and pain - have all gone...gone...GONE!!!!! Now - I love all the herbals - but this is your hearing you are messing with! You need to see a specialist. I can actually hear out of my right ear again! As for right now - if you can't see someone - try this old but trusted remedy....................get some cooking salt - heat it up in a saucepan until it is really really hot. Tip it onto a cloth and wrap it up. Place the salty-wrapped parcel into a clean cloth serviette or teatowel and tie it up like a Christmas pudding. Place it on your sick ear. It will help ease the pain. A heat bag does not work as well for some reason. Whatever you do - avoid sticking cotton buds in your ear - it will only make it worse! Good luck!
