Question:
Answers:
Some ways to recognize symptoms of a stroke:
1. Ask the person to SMILE.
2. Ask the person to TALK, say a simple sentence.
3. Ask the person to RAISE BOTH ARMS.
4. Ask the person to stick out his/her tongue. It the tongue goes to one side or the other, that is an indication of a stroke.
If the person cannot do one of these things, call 911. It is really helpful if a doctor can see a stroke victim within 3 hours of the stroke.
If a person has a drooping appearance on one side of the face, if they cannot hold up their arms in front of them evenly, slurred speech, disoriented or confused, cannot keep balance, have them squeeze your hands and see if one is tighter than the other. All of the are symptoms of a possible stroke. They need emergency care immediately so they can be given the clot busters that can diminish the effects of stroke and long term disability.
