Why can't the cataract forming in my eye be removed before my vison deteriorates to 20/40? Why wait?

I haven't gotten into this much in school yet but I imagine it has something to do with requirements for insurance filing. I know that a test is usually performed to determine if the cataracts are affecting your night vision or causing problems with glare. Having trouble seeing at night because of the cataract is an adequate reason for removal, I believe.
I can't really know what your doctors reasons were but try calling and asking or asking to come in and discuss it (as they will probably be too busy to discuss it over the phone without putting it into their schedule). I'm sure they will be more than happy to explain it to you. It's not uncommon for patients to think of questions after they leave.
Good luck
