Prevention of Heartburn

Some simple precautions to take in order to avoid heartburn are:

If certain foods or drinks regularly bring on discomfort, avoid them

Do not smoke; avoid caffeine and alcohol

Cut back or eliminate chocolate and chocolate-based desserts

Try to lose weight

Eat slowly; avoid foods or drinks that are excessively hot or cold

Do not eat a major meal less than four hours before bedtime

Find ways to reduce stress

Sufferers of night-time heartburn can sometimes be helped by placing 6-inch blocks under the head of the bed. This often helps better than trying to use extra pillows which can shift during the night.

This actually requires a lot of typing. Here we go.

Do you drink TAP water? If you do, and it is from a well, there could be minerals in the water that weren't caught by the filter in the well. If you have an outdoor access to the well, such as a wellhouse or an above ground pump, try changing/cleaning the FILTER for the water, or there are some things you can put IN your well to help clear the water up.

If you drink tap water and you live in the city, then you are getting water from a series of pipes that run below ground. There is FLOURIDE in city water, for a number of reasons: it keeps the water clean, and protects it from the pipes that it runs through when it's traveling from one place to the next. Your body could be reacting to the flouride or other additives that water and health management companies use to keep water clean.

Do you drink only bottled water?
Check the labels!! It sounds crazy, but MANY bottled water companies ADD SODIUM and other phosphates to their water. They do this to a. improve taste, and b. sodium is a form of SALT, and salt makes you thirsty, and when you are thirsty you drink more water, therefore buying more water, and thus making sure the company gets as much money out of you as it possibly can. Sounds crazy? It's true. None of it is bad for, but that may be why you're getting heartburn.

I really can't imagine why else you'd get heartburn from drinking water. I know that drinking water when you ALREADY have heartburn is not a good idea--try drinking milk instead.

Hope I helped.
I thought I was the only one that experienced this from time to time. I have acid reflux & it took a while for this to stop. I take Prilosec on a real regular basis & am very careful about not eating late at night. When eat just before going to bed I will get the burn 1st thing in the morning with my 1st drink of water. Be sure to talk to your doctor about ALL of your symptoms. Acid reflux should not be ignored as it can cause serious damage to your esphogus.
