nose bleeds?

Question:
I had a really bad nose bleed last night, the weird thing was both my nostrils were bleeding at once! Weird coincidence or brain tumour? I'm surprised I made it through to today! :D

Answers:
I don't get nosebleeds very often, but when I do, it pours out of both nostrils. It doesn't just bleed, it pours out so bad that tissues don't work, I just hold a bowl under my nose or stand over a toilet, and it comes out like a taps left on!

If you are concerned, you should visit your GP.

Common causes of nosebleeds include:
nose injury
strenuous activity
high blood pressure
exposure to high altitudes
blowing your nose too hard
minor irritations or colds

It can sometimes be indicitive of a more serious condition, such as:
bleeding disorders
arteriosclerosis
Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia
a tumour in the nasal cavity
heart failure
vein abnormalities
leukaemia
haemophilia

See your GP or call NHS Direct on 0845 46 47 if the bleeding is extremely heavy or if it does not stop after maintaining pressure for 20-30 minutes.

Once the bleeding has stopped, you must avoid any over exertion for 1-2 weeks - nice excuse to take it easy there!!
