Has anyone had a surgery where the nerves endings were burned to destory them and control pain?

Answers:
I am a PT as well, and the rhizotomy you are speaking of is somewhat controversial. It isn't a guarantee that the pain will go away, and there are huge possibilities of motor loss as well. They are only supposed to burn the sensory nerve roots, but we know that the nerves work as a circuit.
I have worked as a PT in the spine care area for 4 years, and have seen 10-15 patients after the dorsal rhizotomy. Some feel better for a while, some feel worse. I have yet to see someone who has felt better long term, but the procedure isn't all that old either.

My relative had a back injury and had the procedure done. It has worked wonderfully. And for the nurse up there, it's called a rhizotomy.
no
Well i didnt have surgery, but when i had an ingrown toenail the doctor burnt the nerve endings of both sides of the nail and it worked. he froze the toe and then i think he said he used some sort of acid. thats probably not what you meant though so sorry if im no help.
I had it done by the VA Hospital in my right upper leg and hip about three years ago. It left a strange numb feeling that has lessened but not gone completely away. But that is far better than the pain I was having. I would reckoned having it done.
I think that naked nurse needs to go back to school!
