What is a doctor looking for in an upper left abdominal CT scan?

Question:
At a physical today my doctor noticed tenderness on the upper left side of my abdomen (just below the rib cage) and noted that he felt "something" in that area. Now he has scheduled a CT scan. What would he be looking for? Liver cysts? All rude and irrelevant answers will be reported. Thanks

Answers:
May be looking for tumors of bowel, pancreas or left kidney or even the spleen. I am an ICU nurse. There are many things a ct will show. I would need to know what other symptoms you are having or was this discovered on a routine physical exam. The liver is on the right side of the body but some of the ducts from the liver lead to the pancreas.
Liver is on right side ,possibly diverticulitis(in a section of intestine)or a hernia
