Research for my novel: What is it like to be shot, shot at, or see someone be shot?

Question:
I'm working on a novel. Odd question-- has anyone been shot or shot at? Could you describe the experience as vividly as you can?

Answers:
Well, I lack first hand experience but I know people who were. If you were concentrating on something else (a lot of veterans say this) you actually don't realize you've been hit until you see the blood. Almost every one I've heard says it takes a minute for you to realize you've been shot. I've heard it described as feeling like a huge bee sting, meaning sharp pain and throbbing. For both the person who got shot and someone who sees it, I assume everything would slow down as part of the instinctive "fight or flight" reaction, another component of the "fight or flight" instinct that comes into play is a huge adrenaline rush. Hope that helped.
