What can I do about headaches?

Question:
I get a lot of headaches. They're almost always on the right side of my head and they start in the back, near my neck, and then work their way up and forward. They're really hard to get rid of. I can
t take aspirin or ibuprofen, Tylenol doesn't work, even if I take 5 Extra Strength Tylenol, I've tried Midrin and Tylenol 3 but they don't help much either. Does anyone have an explanation for these types of headaches? I'm really sick of them.

Answers:
sounds like tension headaches.
try a massage, or gentle stretches of your neck.
(turn your head in the OPPOSITE direction of which ever side is hurting so that your chin lines up with your breast, then with your hand on your head, pull gentley down as to pull your head/chin to your chest. hold this for 5 seconds.) you will feel a gentle stretching in your neck.
maybe your pillow is too high? and taking too much medicine can make it worse so be careful with that.
you need anti inflammatory. Advil is one example.
Tylenol is acetaminophen. but you can try to take one of each, sometimes a combination of the two works good.
also try cold compress like ice on your neck. NEVER use heat will make a headache worse! also strangely enough, caffeine or coffee will help too.
hope this helps ;)

Other Answers:
Not all headaches require medical attention, and respond with simple analgesia (painkillers) such as paracetamol/acetaminophen or members of the NSAID class (such as aspirin/acetylsalicylic acid or ibuprofen).

In recurrent unexplained headaches, healthcare professionals may recommend keeping a "headache diary" with entries on type of headache, associated symptoms, precipitating and aggravating factors. This may reveal specific patterns, such as an association with medication, menstruation and absenteeism.

Some forms of headache may be amenable to preventative treatment, such as migraine. On the whole, long-term use of painkillers is discouraged as this may lead to "rebound headaches" on withdrawal. Caffeine, a vasoconstrictor, is sometimes prescribed or recommended, as a remedy or supplement to pain killers in the case of extreme migraine. This has led to the development of Tylenol Ultra, a paracetamol/caffeine analgesic.
Have you gone to see a docter, i think u might have better luck with them then on here.
When you get totally 'sick' of the pain, you'll find a MD.
maybe u have migraine..go to the hospital for check up..
rent a bullit and buy a gun
stress or light sensitivity
see a doctor
sex is a great cure,really!
go to a neurologist to get it checked out. you can never be too safe.
don't do this unless a doc. okays it...
I had some vicoden es 750MG left over from a surgry and two of those made me forget all about my headaches.

you could have something wrong like that is causing those
so i'd reccomend you to go see a doc.
You may already be experiencing migraines. Ask your doctor about it.

You can also find out the cause of your recurring headache (staying too long in front of the computer; wrong grade of reading glasses if you wear any; stress; etc.).
if you ever get really nausious from them if they make you throw up, you might have a brain tumor . im the same way i have a headache at least 4 times a week. some things work others dont.
You really need to see a doctor...see your GP if you have one...otherwise see a Neurologist. This is NOT something you should mess around with....it could be any number of things and I don't want to scare you but I DO want to motivate you because even if it isn't 'all that serious' you can still get relief from a doctor that you certainly won't get on youqa.coms.
How old are you? I would like to know too because i get mine like that and they last two days...even painkillers don't help. I get mine every month and i'm wondering if it's hormones. Your not alone.
More than likely it revolves around stress or possibly your posture, I get migranes frequently and live on excederine migrane, if it is your posture, try the "tension" headache medicine. Also it is possible that you have allergies or sinus problems, so if the excedrine migrane dosen't work try taking a sinus pill.....beware it may make you drowsy, but if it is the problem then you will feel better real quick.
it sounds to me like you are haveing stress headache that how mine are try to stay stress free yah i know that a hard one but i also take esgic for mine and they work wonderful dies ur neck fell like it will break if you move it n try to get someone to rub your neck

well i dont bother taking tylenol and suck doesnt help..the only that workd was immatrex, for migraines..also i cut out caffeine..smokin..lots of things can cause them..you can also try homepathic medicine.,more natural "pill" dissolves in mouth, like a sugar base..go to local health store or your doctor...but doctor probably wouldn't perscribe..one of those things they dont want you to know about
ok, u have migrains not headaches, they suck ive had a few in my days, try exedrine migrane, if there really bad u probably need to see a DR to get a special prescription... hope i helped
I would consult your doctor, however check your environment. If you work at a desk ensure your posture is correct and you have a chair with good lower back supports and make sure you move around for 5 minutes of every hour. Use a document stand instead of trying to bend over paperwork to read it, and if necessary get check for glasses. If you have an exercise program make sure the exercises you are doing are not placing undue stress on your spine or back muscles and also avoid high quantities of caffine.
In my book of Natural Cures "What they don't want you to know" sais that if you are having a headache. The best thing to do without having to use any drugs is to massage the parts where it hurts.... Thats all it said.
Get a small towel and soak it in rubbing alcohol(get it to where it gets wet but not enough to make alcohol come out)and sleep.
Sounds like you should go to the chiropractor to get realigned. Also what you are explaining is a migraine, not a headache. The best thing for that is Excedrin Migraine.
DO U NEED GLASSES OR DO U HAVE STRESS IN YOUR LIFE....I'D SAY GO SEE YOUR DOC.....TEST WILL TELL ALL......
my mom gets migraines every month during her period. have someone massage your temples. take a warm bubble bath with the lights down low. drink more water, you may be dehydrated. my mom's tryed everything so she gets professional neurological help with these expensive pills. try to find more ways to relax yourself. it may be you're overstressed. don't read in the dark it puts strain on your eyes and could help put stress on your head.
One-sided headaches are often migraines. Do you have an aura? Sensitivity to light and sound? You can see your GP, then maybe even a neurologist and perhaps prophylactic medications can help to prevent these headaches, plus there are several meds now that abort a migraine. DON'T get started on narcotic pain meds, that can be worse than the headaches. Also, you can get rebound headaches from taking Tylenol, etc., too frequently.
you need not worry ;some changes in luck are awaiting you .go to some picnik spots and enjoy .
I feel for you. I've been fighting headaches for three days. I get migraines and so does my son. We are both on RX for them My son is on a preventative.
I've been told to try a chiropractor but they kind of scare me when it comes to cracking my neck or back.
You may want to go to a Dr. It might be something easy to take care of and it may not be. Good luck!
Hi, It sounds to me like tension headaches ( i suffer from them). your symptoms sound ths same as mine. might sound strange but caffiene relieves them for me ( this suggestion was from my nerologist). as soon as i feel one coming on i drink about 2 cups of really strong coffee and it really helps. if you hate coffe you can try some strong tea or soda. good. i also have not had luck with any over the counter medicines. good luck and let me know if this helps you.
Try some traditional chinese therapy...u know, the one using needles....u medicine didn work due to the fact that they only block/ease it, they dont solve your prob...and overdosage-->"5 Extra Strength Tylenol" causes your body to build resistance against it and eventually needs it to even feel normal....hence try going to a proper checkup
You're having migraines
Try to find out what triggers by looking it up on the internet.
Go to the doctor and get some pills for it.
But until then you can some old remedies but I find that laying down in dark room reliefs the pain especially with Niquill which put you to sleep
Don't worry I have Migraines to but mines are about ten times worse than yours first I have Visual Arua( Blurred vision) in one eye that give me time to perpare for the migraine I firgured that long exposured to heat triggers mine
