Wife woke up with excruciating knee cap pain and swelling around cap, wont bend.?

Question:
My wife woke up with knee pain especially around the knee cap, with nearly immediate swelling, with no previous injury. It will not bend. She says even touching the skin makes it hurt. She was taken to the local hospitol and they could not find out what is wrong with it (the docs here suck) She has an appointment on monday with our regular doctor, but we are curious what it could be. Thank you for any help you can provide.

Answers:
It isn't difficult to get a knee injury. The wrong step, or picking up something too heavy can do it. It does need to be x-rayed. In the meantime she can apply ice for 20 minutes on and off as needed, take Ibuprofen, and keep off of it until she can get to a real doctor.

Other Answers:
Sounds like a spider bite. Try some Benadryl. Hope she's better soon!!

well, I have no idea what it could be. But , I hope that she feels better soon.take care of her. Make sure she's on anti inflamatories and maybe cold and heat therapy. She could've cracked the knee cap loose somehow. I'm not a medical person though.

go to the website "WEBMD" and see if that can help

This is called Aamvata in ayurveda and Rheumatoid arthritis in modern medicine. Person has swelling around knee cap, or local heating (warmer feeling), can not easily get up if sitting with folded legs on ground. Stiffness, a sound when joint moves are also symptoms. If weight on knee kncreases as when going up the staircase, pain is more.
There are excellent medicines and massage oils in ayurveda, and naturopathic detoxification procedures yield sufficient relief. The best treatment is "Basti" a panchkarma procedure with medicated oils.
