Sleeping, how much is needed?


Question:
I try to sleep for as little time as possible, but without the aid of an alarm clock, I sleep for 12 hours!!!! I hate this cos this is half a day gone!! (usually from 12:00 till 12:00)
Since uni holidays are over, I NEED to get up earlier!

Have tried going sleep earlier but I just toss n turn till about 12:00.
If I use an alarm clock, I feel REALLY tired and dizzy ALL day! Asked the doctor to check my blood etc, he's says I'm as fit as a fiddle.
I also enjoy my time everynight with my woman (u know wot I mean) do you think this is why I need to sleep so much?

And what the hell is REM (rapid eye movement)!!! I jst wanna get to sleep!!! Ideally about 22:00 and be awake for about 06:00!!

HELP!!!!

people that sleep longer die younger i get by on 5 hrs sleep works for me i dont want to miss anything in this life
I can get by on 5-6 hours a night for about a week but then I need a 10 hour catch up sleep. i work shifts which buggers me body clock up
