Dialysis is for Renal (kidney) failure. The dialysis machine actually serves as a kidney. It is done 3 times a week and once it is started they have to do it either until the person dies or gets a new kidney. My grandmother was on dialysis for years and my father in law did too. Lupus usually, which causes liver failure!
