Im 19 years old, and its getting hard for me to sleep at night because my joints are hurting, any advice?

Question:
The joint pain is usually in my ankles, and knees, and it is horribly painful, and it seems to be getting worse. I've had to take sleeping pills the last week just to get some sleep. I need advice?? I thought maybe arthritis..but can i have that at 19??

Answers:
It is possible to have arthritis or some other degenerative disease, so the advice to see a doctor is pretty good. One possible home remedy is to eat some cherries. Not kidding. One cause of joint pain is build up of uric acid and the cherries help the body eliminate it. Another thing it could be at 19 is just growing pains. Have you gained a lot of height in the last year? Glucosamine is also sold as a treatment. It is not a pain medicine, but actually helps the body repair the connective tissues in the joints. It takes several weeks to feel the results.

see a doctor

Yes, you can. Do you work? What is your job? Do you have a workout program? You should see a doctor.

Hon, please see a doctor. There are so many things that can cause joint pain and, if it is getting worse, it warrants attention. Only a doctor can diagnose and treat whatever is going on with you.

I'm an R.N.

best go see your doctor. It is quite possible that you have arthritis, but it also could be an allergic reaction to something, or a vitamin/ mineral deficiency. The best thing to do is to get checked out by a doctor!

It is probably because you are growing fast.
It can cause pain in your ankles and knees.
You should go and see a doctor, a sports medicine doc
may be able to help you.
But there could be something else, go see a doctor!
