Health Question: What is a Belly Ruben count? (Spelling??)?

Question:
My mother's doctor said she was worried about her Belly Ruben count, although she did not tell us how it is spelled. I was going to do more research on it online. But nothing comes up since I must be way off on the spelling. My mother has to go see a Urologist about the problem now. We're all very worred. Does anybody know what it means or the correct way to spell it? Thanks.

Answers:
BILIRUBIN- is a chemical that is normaqlly taken care of by the liver and galllbladder. If it is elevated it could mean: 1. mama has a bad liver, or 2. mom's galllbladder needs some attention, or 3. for some strange reason, mother is breaking down her red blood cells really quickly, or 4. mom has always had this abnormality and no one ever noticed or cared.

Now the strange part is that she's been referred to a urologist. The urologist- a specialist in the bladder and the plumbing below it- doesnt ususally concern themselves with bilirubin or other liver things. Are you sure your mom wasnt referred to the urologist for another reason? Its true that bilirubin, or a very similar chemical, sometimes is excreted in the urine, but that is usually the result of the same diseases of the liver or blood I just enumerated.

Other Answers:
Spelled bilirubin, it is a blood/lab test to measure the breakdown of hemoglobin (red blood cells) in the body. With the correct spelling you can go online, or use Wikipedia, for tons of information. Remember, if you have simple questions as to spelling don't hesitate to ask more questions of the doctor, that's what they're there for, to address your health concerns.
