If your parent or partner was elderly and senile would you care for them at home??

Question:
or place them in a old folks home??

Answers:
I WORK IN A NURSING HOME AND I CAN TELL YOU OUR RESIDENTS ARE WELL CARED FOR AND BELIVE IT OR NOT LOVED ITS ALL WELL AND GOOD FOR SOMEONE ON THE OUT SIDE LOOKING IN SAYING I WILL LOOK AFTER MY PARENTS BUT IT DEPENDS WHAT PROBLEMS THEY HAVE E.G DEMENTIA STROKE ALZHEIMER'S ETC VERY VERY HARD TO COPE WITH AT HOME AND YES MOST ABUSE OCCURS IN THE HOME NOT THE HOSTELS AND NURSING HOMES AND IF ANY STAFF MEMBERS WERE TO MISTREAT THEM THEY SHOULD BE JAILED FOR LIFE SO MY ANSWER WOULD BE DEPENDING ON THEIR CONDITION WOULD DEPEND ON WEATHER OR NOT TO NURSE THEM AT HOME.

Other Answers:
It depends on the level of care that my loved one required. There are lots of excellent facilities that can care forpeople who need it, and being a full-time care provider can be an overwhelming and exhausting prospect. By placing someone in a quality facility you might be helping everyone involved including yourself and your loved one. You can still be very involved with that person's life and see them as often as they need.

Also, most cases of elder abuse occur when family members are just too stressed out or hurt their loved one by accident. Nursing homes are among the most regulated industries and are very safe and usually caring environments. Just make sure you choose one that seems to fit well to you. If you have any concerns call your ombudsmen (the people who watch out for patients' rights)
