If your going to do suctioning for a patient using only one suction catheter, which is first nose or mouth?
Question:
Answers:
You need to do an evaluation of each case. The most important thing to suction out is the AIRWAY. If you have a clear access through the oral cavity, that is the way to go. Also, the size of the catheter is a factor. Usually, they are small enough to do either/or. Also, you should be referring to your EMT textbook, not here where there are too few medically trained persons to get a valid answer

eeewwww!! I would do the nose first as the mouth is "bacteria harbour"!!!
Themouth completly evacuate the oral cavity rinse the cath, with sterile water then suction the nasal pasages.
Consult your EMT book.
I would, but mine is at home and I'm working.
You need to maintain a POSITIVE AIRWAY...that is most important.
You also have to be careful which state you are in, follow local protocals.
