Are back braces good for correcting bad posture?
Question:
Answers:
Yes as they make you more conscious of your posture all the time.
Other Answers:
I hear back braces or not good at all, it actually messes up your spinal cord from recent studies.
Yes, a good (approved) back brace can help correct posture, but remember that this is usually a temporary fix.
You have to make changes in the way you carry yourself, sit, sleep, etc.. as well.
Good luck!
i do not know unfortunatley but i will offer you tips such as sitting up straight always of course, and when your walking tip your head up a little more than usual. you will automatically bring your back up to keep from looking silly, and walk with tall people where you will walk to keep in stride and look as if your part of the group
Only short term; otherwise, the muscles that you would normally use to maintain a correct posture start to atrophy (weaken) due to non-use. Conclusively, you're worse off.
My sister worn one for 1 year and her doctor found no improvement wearing the brase. She is now doing back muscle strenghting exercises which seem to make her fell better and her posture is better. She has only been doing this for 3 months but you can tell a difference looking at her from the side and front.
Yes, they are also used after spinal surgery to keep the correct posture which aids the fusion of tissue and so forth.
If you are talking about the kind that "remind" you to pull your shoulders back, fine. But if you are talking about the kind that "pull" your shoulders back and hold them in that position, not such a good idea. It is doing the work for your own muscles, so over time the muscles atrophy (get weaker) because they have nothing to do. Consequently, you make the problem worse and become dependent on the brace.
No! A bad back will give you bad posture! Bad posture will not give you a bad back!!
My dad wore them for a while but that didn't help him.
Weakness in the back can be genetic so I was supposed to be careful. My solution is yoga, hatha yoga.
This definitely strengthens your back and corrects your posture. I've been doing yoga for two years now (short sessions about thrice weekly) and I'd say my posture is as good as it has ever been.
There are specific postures that help you strengthen specific back muscles, but I find the basic 'sun salutation' a great all round set.
Do give it a try, you'll be surprised. When I started, I couldn't even touch my toes, so don't worry if you are out of shape. Look for a hatha-yoga class, and enjoy!
