What causes a "charley-horse"? Not in the leg, but in my upper abdominals area.?
Question:
Answers:
Medically it can be many different reasons why your pain (charlie horse) is being caused… YOU SHOULD GET CHECKED OUT BY YOUR PRIMARY DOCTOR!! …I can only tell you; what caused mine, what I researched and then initiated into my daily diet and lifestyle.
I ran into SEVERE MUSCLE CRAMPING all over my body on a daily basis do to my medical condition that had me in severe mal-nutrient and dehydration.
The most common causes for muscle cramping (like Charlie horses) are; Dehydration and Low levels of Potassium and or Sodium.
Try re-hydrating after work-outs with one of the newer sports drink that contains enough potassium and sodium to replace what was and is lost during exercising (be careful because they also have a lot of sugars in them. You can find some with lower amounts of sugars and or artificial sweeteners). Also, you may try eating a banana every day (This helped me even more when taken in conjunction with the sports drink and water!!).
DON’T forget to keep drinking lots of water all day long along with extra water when you’re working out and or if it’s really hot out.
DON'T DEPEND ON THE SPORTS DIRINK! YOU NEED TO GET A BETTER NUTRITIONAL DIET FOR YOUR LIFESTYLE.
F.Y.I: You should try to get potassium and sodium in natural ways (i.e.: bananas) because your body will process and absorb more of it then if you drink it in a sports drink or take an over the counter pill.
This all helps me a lot and I hope it will help you along with what your doctor says!!
Good Luck!!

Hmm thats a bit odd. It sounds lyk a pancreas problem. However, if u work out too much ur muscles can jus b acting up. If u dont though, I hate to say it but take a visit to the doctor. My mom held off on her stomach "charley horses" for too long n she endin up havin to get surgery. She wud jus crucnch up into a ball n lay on the floor caz she cuddnt move. So b4 it gets that bad, go to the doctors. Stay safe sweetie <333
I usually get "charley horses" when my potassium level starts to drop to low. So I eat a banana or something else for a few days to get it back up, but mine are usually in the legs. You might want to ask you doctor the next time you are in.
The common causes of muscle cramps are strain and/or mineral imbalance. If you've been doing abs exercise, crunches, sit ups, etc., lay off for a few days and supplement minerals. The banana suggestion is dead on.
In addition to the answers you've received. I take a diuretic (water pill) and potassium. I get the cramps in my abdomen when I start to dehydrate to much.
