HI!
It all depends what she suffers health wise.
My grandmother was 89 and she was oxygen for a while. She had a heart valve that wasn't opening and closing properly. She lived with the condition since she was 56 or so. (that's when we found out). She suffered quite a bit in the last year of her life...she passed away last September.
I spent a few hours everyday for the last month of her life. I wouldn't change that for anything. Enjoy your grandmother while she's here...it's precious time.
Consult her physician if you have any questions. And make sure they listen to you. Just because she's older doesn't mean she doesn't matter.

No, it's the age. The oxygen is keeping her alive. At 85 they sleep a lot. Just lost my Mom. She was 86. Sorry to hear your Grand Mother is ill. Cherri sh your time with her. God Bless You.
Or lack of it...
The doctor should check what her carbon dioxide level is when she is on the oxygen. If it is too high, it could be making her sleepy.
There may be some other disease process going on. A bit hard to tell from here.
Get her doctor to check her over. I think that would make you feel happier and you may find and fix whatever is wrong.
Well, it could be a lot of things. But if she was put on oxygen, that likely means she is oxygen deprived for some reason. When the brain isn't getting as much oxygen as it should, the person sleeps a lot.
All the best to you and your grandmother.
If she is a smoker which leads to C02 retainer, she could be sleeping because of too much oxygen. If she is not on enough oxygen, she could be sleeping from hypoxia.
Your sweet grandma may just be sleeping because thats what older foagies do.
Most likely it's the lack there of. My father in law has heart problems and wasn't getting enough oxygen. He was put on oxygen and started to sleep even more. The good news is that he has improved greatly and is not on the oxygen 24/7 now. There may be hope for your grandmother too, although it never hurts to talk to her Doctor about it as well. Some medications can also make them sleep a lot.
