All sodas that are not diet sodas contain high fructose corn syrup, an inexpensive sweetener that is sweeter than sugar, but packs more calories. Water is definitely a better choice.

Drinking water is much better for you. Look at the amount of sugar in a can of Coke. If you don't like drinking water so much, try putting in a drop or two of lemon juice, or slice a lemon and squeeze it in. Makes your water very refreshing, and the lemon will help hydrate you.
Besides sugar it has caffeine which causes adreniline release in body, then your body will release insulin to lower adreniline level and too much insulin can lead to weight gain. So its a double whammy sugar and caffeine.

of course you should rather drink water. Coke and other sodas contain alot of chemicals that may putyour health at risk. Can't blame you though.. Coke really tastes good.. ahehehe

But... If you want to drink something that is not water, I suggest you not to drink Coke or things like that, because they have lots of coloring agents, preservatives and antioxidants.
Instead of water you could try cold green tea with no sugar.
